A Brief Introduction to Village of English-speaking Countries

The concept of designing this village embodies cultures of six major English-speaking countries, namely UK , USA , Canada , Australia , New Zealand and Ireland . The village occupies nearly 160 square meters, reflecting traditional European domed structures in design. Standing in the middle of the hall, students can view everything on the walls.

The ceiling is a world-renowned painting, the Genesis. The main reason for choosing this picture is to show the in-depth Biblical influence to the culture of these countries. The national flags, national emblems, national flowers, national trees and national birds of these countries are displayed on the four walls. The popular figures, local tradition and custom, pictures and sculptures of the famous architectures, especially about UK and USA , are exhibited in a circle shape on the main floor. Meanwhile, in this village are equipped with multi media devices to show non-stop information concerning these countries.

The designing of this village is tri-functional: teaching, practicing and exhibiting. And the selection of pictures all focuses on basic background and uniqueness of these countries.

This village is employed mainly as on-campus workshop for English-majored students. It is the place where courses, such as “Spoken English”, “Briefing of English-speaking Countries”, etc. are delivered. And it is also a platform for English contests sponsored by variety of English clubs. On the whole, the village creates an ideal English environment, favorable for the students to forge their practical language skills including speaking and listening comprehension.

英语国家村简介

英语国家村的设计理念主要是体现世界上六大英语国家即英国、美国、加拿大、澳大利亚、新西兰、爱尔兰的文化。面积近160平方米，主体设计为欧洲传统穹顶半圆形造型，学生在场地中心可以看到四周墙壁上的全部内容。

英语国家村顶部为世界名画《创世纪》。选此画的原因主要是体现《圣经》对英语及英语国家的文化影响之深。墙的四周为主要六个英语国家的国旗、国徽、国花、国树及国鸟。在地上四周主要是这六个英语国家尤其英国与美国主要人物、风土人情、著名建筑的图片与雕塑，同时在英语国家村配有多媒体设备，可以循环播放有关于这几个国家国情的影音资料。

英语国家村整个活动场地分成三个区域。前面是舞台表演区，主要是仿造英国皇室观看剧场演出而设计；中间为英美人生活休闲区。主要体现英国人喝下午茶及美国人喜欢喝咖啡的习惯；后面为学生比赛活动区。桌子主要是用来做比赛评委席。三个区域既是一个整体，又可以单独使用，体现了综合利用的理念。

英国国家村的设计体现了地球村的教学功能、实践实训功能以及观赏和展览的功能。在图片的选择上也体现了英国国家的基本概况及英语国家的突出特色。

英语国家村将作为英语专业的校内实践基地使用，主要用于英语国家概况、英语口语等课程及各种专业社团的使用，另外还会在此展开大量的专业知识竞赛，使学生在英语氛围的熏陶下，提高英语听、说等语言实践技能。
